Our Story

Chartered in 1983, First State Bank opened for business on May 26,1983 in Woodson, Texas. The first officers of the bank were Jay Gober, President and Bobbie Parker as Cashier. The first directors of the bank were W.E. Harper, Bobby Joe Davis, B.W. Dickie, Jay Gober, Charles Gober, Don Owen and George Harvick.

In September of 1990, First State Bank opened its second location in Throckmorton, Texas and in May of 1991 opened its new facility in Graham, Texas which would become the main bank with the Throckmorton and Woodson banks becoming branches. In December of 2015, two new branches were opened with one being located in Olney, Texas as well as a second location in Graham located on Highway 16S. In December of 2019, a branch in Archer City was opened followed by a branch in Jacksboro which was opened in January of 2021.

First State Bank has grown from a “start up” with two employees to our current $ 250 million asset size with approximately 50 employees and seven banking facilities. Our success has been due to professional, trustworthy and friendly employees who make banking a pleasant experience for our customers.
